When meeting new material or beginning a new topic, think about what you already know.
the chapter of the textbook by following the SQ3R method of reading: survey the whole chapter – skim through, looking at headings, charts, pictures, etc. think of questions the material raises for you read paragraph by paragraph, actively trying to learn the material recite the material you read – say it aloud to see if you know it review what you have learned
-make notes from the text, using the left to right technique to write the main ideas and points. -jot down your questions
-carefully and actively, taking down information as needed -participate in the class discussions -ask questions
-copy the notes from the board or projector -if given copies, read and highlight handouts
-make study cards on the factual material, definitions and new vocabulary -make cards on subjects you have at home -go over the cards several times when you make them, then again at the end of the session or before bed
Writing is the best way to learn - rewrite your own notes and the teacher’s notes, creating a new note various forms such as graphic webs or mind maps diagrams charts flow charts left to right notes / point form notes
Study for the test in ways that best suit you – try many techniques: Start by actively reading over the textbook Then with your notes review your study cards and study notes, actively testing yourself create mnemonics or other memory tricks CRCR cover, recite, check, review create tests and write essay answers rewrite old tests get someone to test you
Reading it over is not good enough – no matter how many times you read it!
