Waves PULSE : one wave cycle, single vibration or movement AMPLITUDE : maximum disturbance of a particle from its rest (equilibrium) position TRANSVERSE PULSE : particles of medium move at right angles with to the direction of the propagation of the pulse SUPERPOSITION : the addition of the disturbances of the two pulses at the same time CONSTRUCTIVE INTERFERENCE : occurs when the resulting disturbance is larger than the individual disturbances which created it DESTRUCTIVE INTERFERENCE : when resultant displacement is smaller than the individual displacement TRANSVERSE WAVE : succession of transverse pulses WAVELENGTH : distance between 2 consecutive, corresponding points on the wave CREST : maximum posistive amplitude TROUGH : maximum negative amplitude FREQUENCY : number of times the wave cycle is repeated (Hz) PERIOD : time it takes a wave to complete 1 wave cycle IN PHASE : waves that are - moving same direction, same wavelength, crest and trough occur at same time OUT OF PHASE : waves not in phase f=1/T WAVE SPEED : v=fA
