As a result, he thinks he can avoid the will of the gods or fate Tragedies come from the belief that man were subjects to the will of the gods and fate The Greek Tragic Hero This person (man or woman), needed to be capable of great suffering Disaster is struck on this person, because of a single flaw, or hamartia Hubris excessive pride leads to suffering, followed by the understanding of where the person stands in society Purpose teaches a lesson through the suffering of the person in the play teaches that the sufferings are because of the disobedience shown to the gods or fate
