Britain and France are 'Self Interested' which means selfish. This could be because after the war, they were both devastated and wanted to help themselves.

The Sanctions:-The Moral Sanction, which was basically just a telling off and saying it is wrong. It is good for countries who listen such as small countries but wouldn't work with bigger countries (as seen in the Abyssinian Crisis)-The Trade Sanction, where all countries could not trade with the offending country. It is good because it could cripple a country into submission but Britain and France wouldn't do this because they want to improve their own economy.-The Military Sanction, where the League can send in troops to enforce peace. It is a good deterrence but again Britain and France wouldn't issue it because they would be expected, as the leaders of the League, to send in the most troops but they aren't willing to do it. Only America could enforce this sanction which is why it could have been better if America had joined the League.

Each leader of the League, which were Britain, France, Italy and Japan, had VETO's. These are things that if the rest of the leaders vote on something, a person can use his VETO and the vote is invalid and will not happen. Italy use this to their advantage when Mussolini invades Abyssinia.
