Delegated legislation -          legislations passed by bodies other than parliament but with the permission of parliament -          law NOT made by parliament but under its authority -          permission is usually given as an enabling act -          creates the framework of the law -          delegates powers to others to make more detailed law in that area -          e.g. Local government act 1972 = allows local authorities such as district and county councils to make by-laws   -          three types of delegated legislation: orders in council, by-laws and statutory instruments
