Cognitive psychologist would call it "how-to-score knowledge" a schema and schema theory is a cognitive theory about information processing. A cognitive schema can be defined as networks of knowledge, beliefs, and expectations about particular aspects of the world.Schemata can describe how specific knowledge is organised and stored in memory so that it can be accessed and used when it is needed. It is not possible to see a schema inside someones head, but using concepts like schemata help psychologists, and the rest of us, to understand and discuss what it would otherwise not be possible to do.
Evaluate Schema Theory with reference to research studies:+ Studies provide evidence; strengths of studies.+ Explains many cognitive processes e.g. memory, perception.+ Explains the reconstructive nature of memory e.g. eye witness testimonies, stereotypes.- Cannot see or measure schemata directly.- Weaknesses of the studies.- Leads to distortions/mistakes when a situation is unfamiliar.
