The Circulatory system. This system is made up of the heart and blood vessels. It is responsible for transporting blood and its materials to the tissues of the body and removing waste products from the body.

The system is made up of some main organs:The BrainThe LungsThe heartThe LiverThe Intestine or GutThe KidneysAll of these need a good blood supply to function correctly.

Blood flow. De OxygenatedDe oxygenated blood flows via veins back to the heart.  It enters the heart Via the vena cava.De oxygenated blood reaches the vena cava from:The Brain --> Via the superior vena cavaThe Gut and Liver --> Via the hepayic veinThe Kidneys --> Via the Renal Vein. The blood flows into the right atrium, and then into the left ventricle. The pulmonary artery takes the blood from the heart to the lungs.

Blood Flow. OxygenatedOxygenated blood flows from the lungs back to the left atrium via the pulmonary vein. The blood then flows into the left ventricle, where it is pumped out around the body via the Aorta. The Brain --> AortaThe liver --> Hepatic VeinThe Kidneys --> Renal arteryBlood leaving the Gut arrives at the liver via the hepatic portal vein.

Pulmonary - Means to do with the LungsHepatic - Means to do with the LiverRenal - Means to do with the Kidney's

Note:Normally Arteries carry oxygenated blood and veins carry de-oxygenated bloodThe pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein are big exceptions to the rule.
