Gender gap in achievement In 2013, teacher assessments had shown that at the end of one year, girls were ahead of boys by between 7 and 17 percentage points in all seven areas of learning assessed. At key stages 1 to 3, girls do consistently better than boys. In English, the gender gap grows, however, in subjects like Maths and Science, the gap becomes narrower, but girls still tend to do better. At AS and A levels, girls are more likely to sit, pass and get higher grades than boys, even though the gap is much narrower than GCSE At GCSE, the gender gap stands at around 10 percentage points
