Who was the Tsar during the Revolution?

Russia was ruled by an emperor called [blank_start]Tsar Nicholas ii[blank_end]. Him and his [blank_start]wife[blank_end] ruled alone, with no true representative bodies. Even the [blank_start]Duma[blank_end], an elected body created in 1905, could be completely [blank_start]ignored[blank_end] by the Tsar when he wished to, and he did. [blank_start]Censorship[blank_end] of books and newspapers was frequent, while a [blank_start]secret police[blank_end] operated to crush dissent, often either executing people or sending them to exile in [blank_start]Siberia[blank_end]. The result was an [blank_start]autocratic regime[blank_end] under which republicans, democrats, revolutionaries, [blank_start]socialists[blank_end] and others both chaffed and were increasingly desperate for [blank_start]reform[blank_end]. Some wanted violent change, others peaceful, but as [blank_start]opposition[blank_end] to the Tsar was [blank_start]banned[blank_end], opponents were increasingly driven to extreme measures.

Why did the military turn to the Communists?
