  • Projectiles
  • Consider vertical and horizontal components separately
  • The only force acting vertically is the constant force due to gravity
  • There are no forces acting horizontally (ignoring air-resistance) ⇒ no acceleration ⇒ velocity is constant∴ the only equation of motion iss=ut
  • The trajectory is symmetrical
  • The time of flight is twice the time taken to reach the highest point
  • To find the range, use s=uT where T=time of flight and u=initial horizontal speed
  • The direction of motion is given by the direction of the velocity
  • A particle projected with speed v at angle θ to the horizontal will strike the ground at the same level with speed v at angle θ to the horizontal
  • Let Vy be the vertical component of the accelerationLet Vx be the horizontal component of the velocity

  • To find the time of flight;Find t when vertical displacement is zero:s=0
  • To find the greatest height;Find the vertical displacement when Vy=0Find the vertical displacement using t=1/2 x T
