Greta Thunberg was born on 3 January 2003. In December 2018 she described herself as having been diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome and selective mutism. To lower her family´s carbon footprint, she insisted they become vegan and gave up flying.
On 20 August 2018 she decided not to attend school until the 2018 Sweden general election on 9 September after heat waves and wildfires in Sweden. Her demands were that the Swedish government reduce carbon emissions and she protested by sitting outside the Parliament every day during school hours with the sign...
After the general elections, she continued to strike only on Fridays, gaining worldwide attention. She inspired school students across the globe to take part in students´ strikes. As of December 2018 more than 20,000 students held strikes in at least 270 cities and, as we saw, Friday 15th March.
More than 1.4 million young people around the world took part in school strikes for climate action. Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old Swedish student whose solo protest last August started the global movement, said: " We proved that it does matter what you do and that no one is too small to make a difference"
Children walked out of their schools on Friday 15th March in 2,233 cities and towns in 128 countries, with demonstrations helf from Australia to India, the Uk and the US, as well as Spain. Further strikes are planned for 12 April.
