PRESENT SIMPLE VS CONTINUOUS

PRESENT SIMPLE

We use: - The infinitive of the verb for “I”, “you”, “we” and “they”. - We use the infinitive + "-s" at the end of the verb for “he”, “she” and “it".      I eat    You eat                              You eat apples everyday     He/She/It eats                      Marta eats apples everyday    We eat    You eat    They eat

PRESENT SIMPLE

Negative Sentences  Subject + auxiliar verb (to do) + the negative auxiliar (“not”) + verb.    I do not [don’t] eat.  You do not eat  He/She/It does not [doesn’t] eat.  We do not eat.  You do not eat  They do not eat.

Interrogative Sentences  Auxiliar verb (to do) + subject + main verb ? Do I eat? Do you eat? Does he/she/it eat? Do we eat? Do you eat? Do they learn?

We use the auxiliar verb “to be” and verb+ing I    +   am   +   talking he/she/it   +  is   +   talking you/we/they   +   are   +   talking 

PRESENT CONTINUOUS

Negative Sentences  Subject + auxiliar verb (to be) + negative auxiliar (not) + verb+ing. I am not talking. You are not talking He/She/It is not talking We are not talking You are not talking They are not talking

Interrogative Sentences  Auxiliar verb (to be) + subject + verb+ing? Am I talking? Are you talking? Is He/She/It talking? Are we talking? Are you talking? Are they talking?

USES

PRESENT SIMPLE To talk about a rutine using "usually", "everyday", "always". To talk about general things or scientific facts. Instructions

PRESENT CONTINUOUS To talk about something that is happening at the moment. Something that is happening in the present. It is necessary to use “currently”, “lately” or “these days”. Future plans (We Will see later)
