Lepcha Weaving of Sikkim
Lepcha weaving is native to Sikkim
and goes back to ancient times when the Lepchas used yarn spurn out of natural fibre – Nettle, also known as Sisnu, for Handloom weaving.
The traditional Lepcha Attire comprises of two sets of outfits
‘Dum-vum’ - worn by women
‘Dum-praa’ - worn by men
These attires are crowned with hand-made accessories.
Dum-praa
The Dum-praa is men’s outerwear.
It is a shawl-like fabric worn as a covering during the day and taken off to use as a blanket at night.
It normally follows three distinct patterns –
the Tagaap
the Khemchu’ and
the Tamblyoak
Pattern Description:
I made my pattern using geometrical shapes such as, vertical and horizontal lines , triangles , squares and rectangle
Pattern Rule:
The rule for my pattern is: Triangle , Vertical lines , Square , Vertical lines and Triangle
