Pregunta Respuesta
Do cells divide continuously or not? They do not divide continuously
What happens during interphase of the cell cycle (hint- not mitosis). first growth (proteins are synthesised and produced), synthesis (DNA is replicated) and second growth (organelles grow and divide).
What are the three phases of the cell cycle interphase nuclear division cell division
Describe nuclear division when the nucleus either divides into two (mitosis) or four (meiosis)
describe cell division follows nuclear division in that the whole cell either divides into two (mitosis) or four (meiosis)
What can you say about the length of each cell cycle? varies among different organisms, typically a mammalian cell takes around 24 hours to divide, 90% of this time being interphase
What is cancer A group of cells that divide rapidly and uncontrollably as a result of damage to the genes that regulate mitosis and the cell cycle.
What is involved in the treatment of cancer? Blocking of cell division in order to stop the growth of cells.
How does chemotherapy work? prevents DNA from replicating, it inhibits the metaphase stage of the cell cycle by interfering with spindle formation.
