Wound Closure - prevents infection and loss of fluid, promotes healing, prevents contractions, performed on day 5 - 21 following the injury, depending on the extent of the burn Care of graft site -elevate and immobilize site -site should be pressure-free -avoid weight bearing -when the graft takes, if ordered, roll a cotton-tipped exudate, because exudate can lead to infection and prevent graft adherence -monitor for foul smelling drainage, inc temp, inc WBC, hematoma formation, and fluid accumulation -client should avoid using fabric softeners and harsh detergents in the laundry -client should lubricate the healing skin with ordered agents, protect area from sunlight, use splints and support garments as ordered
