Pregunta Respuesta
What is the equation that links: kinetic energy, mass, velocity? kinetic energy (j) = 1/2 mass * velocity^2
What are the two equations for power? power (watt) = energy transferred (j) /time (s) power (watt) = work done (j) / time (s)
What is meant by the term 'efficiency' ? The less energy that is 'wasted' the more efficient a product is.
What is the equation for 'efficiency' ? efficiency = useful output energy/total input energy transfer.
What is the 'National grid' and what are the 5 stages to the process? The 'National grid' is a giant system of cables and transformers that covers the UK and connect power stations to consumers. Power stations, step up transformer, pylons, step down transformer, consumers.
What is current? flow of electrical charge
What is the unit for 'potential difference'? volts, v
What is the unit for resistance? ohms
What is the equation that links current, charge flow, and time? charge flow (c) = current (a)*time (s)
What is the equation for resistance? potential difference (v) = current (a) * resistance (ohms)
What is DC? direct current - same direction.
What is AC? alternating current - constantly changing direction.
Mains electricity What colour is the 'live wire'? brown.
Mains electricity Which wire is the colour 'blue' ? neutral wire
Mains electricity What is colour is the earth wire? yellow and green
Mains electricity what is the use of the 'live wire' ? carries the alternating potential difference form the supply.
Mains electricity What is the use of the 'neutral wire' ? completes the circuit.
Mains electricity What is the use of the 'earth wire' ? safety wire to stop the appliance becoming live.
What is the equation for density? density (kg/m^3) = mass (kg) / volume (m^3)
What is 'specific heat capacity' ? SHC of a substance is the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of 1kg of the substance to 1^.
What is the equation for SHC? change in thermal energy = mass * SHC * temperature change
What is specific latent heat of fusion? energy needed to change the state from solid to liquid.
What is specific latent heat of vaporisation? energy needed to change the state from liquid to vapour.
What is the equation for SLH of vaporisation? energy (j) = mass (kg) * SLH (j/kg)
What increases the electrons distance from the nucleus? absorbs electromagnetic radiation.
What decreases the electrons distance from the nucleus? emits electromagnetic radiation.
What is a alpha particle? Is a helium nuclei. 2 protons and 2 neutrons.
What is a beta particle? Is a high speed electron. virtually no mass (-1).
What is gamma ray? Is a electromagnetic waves emitted from the nucleus.
What is alpha decay? decreases the charge and mass of the nucleus.
What is bata decay? increases the charge of the nucleus.
What is gamma decay? doesn't change anything.
What is half-life? the half-life is the time taken for the number of radioactive nuclei in an isotope to halve.
What is contamination? radioactive particles that get into the other objects.
What is irradiation? the process of exposing objects to nuclear radiation.
