Pregunta Respuesta
What is a vector quantity? Vector quantities have a magnitude and direction.
Give two examples of Vector quantities. Force, velocity, displacement, acceleration, momentum etc. Anything with a value and direction.
What is a scalar quantity? Scalar quantities only have a magnitude and no direction.
Give two examples of a scalar quantity. Speed, distance, time, mass, temperature etc. Any value with no direction.
Speed and velocity are very similar. Which is a vector quantity and which is a scalar quantity? Speed - Scalar (Magnitude but No direction) Velocity - Vector (Direction and magnitude)
Two bikes are travelling at 65 mph. One is travelling North west the other south east. Is their velocity the same or different? They are travelling in different directions so their velocity will be different.
All forces are one of two types. Name both. Contact or Non - contact.
What is the difference between contact and non contact forces? Contact - Two objects must come into contact. Non contact - No contact required for the force to act.
Name two examples of contact forces. Friction, air resistance, tension in ropes etc.
Name two examples of non contact forces. magnetic, gravitational or electrostatic forces etc.
Fill in the blanks: When two objects interact there is a force produced on b___ objects. An i__________ pair is a pair of forces that are e____ and o_______. When two objects interact there is a force produced on both objects. An interaction pair is a pair of forces that are equal and opposite.
The sun and the Earth are attracted together by gravitational forces. Is this a contact or non contact force? The sun and the Earth are attracted together by gravitational forces. This is a NON CONTACT force.
A chair exerts a force on the ground. What force is produced from the ground and how strong is it? The ground will produce an equal but opposite force to the chair.
Describe what is gravitational force. The force of attraction between masses.
What are the two important affects of gravity? 1. On a planet's surface, all objects will fall to the ground. 2. It gives everything a weight.
True or False: Weight and Mass are the same. FALSE! Weight and mass are very different!
