Object pronouns are pronouns used after a preposition or after a verb. |
Example: Maria likes Tom. If we change the nouns to pronouns we get... | She likes him. |
Maria is the subject. Maria is a woman. There is only one Maria. so... | 'She' is a the subject pronoun for Maria. |
Maria likes Tom. Tom isn't the subject. Tom is a man. There is only one Tom. So... | 'him' is the object pronoun for Tom. |
Let's do this in a
different way.

We're going to change roles. |
Tom likes Maria. | Let's change the nouns for pronouns. |
He likes her. | How did we do this? |
Tom is the subject of the sentence. Tom is a man and there is only one Tom. So... | The subject pronoun for Tom is 'He'. |
Maria is NOT the subject of the sentence. | Maria comes after the verb. |
Maria is a woman and there is only one Maria here. So... | We need an object pronoun for Maria. The object pronoun is 'her'. |
How about a little practice?
