Object pronouns Object pronouns are pronouns used after a preposition or after a verb.
Example: Maria likes Tom. If we change the nouns to pronouns we get... She likes him.
Maria is the subject. Maria is a woman. There is only one Maria. so... 'She' is a the subject pronoun for Maria.
Maria likes Tom. Tom isn't the subject. Tom is a man. There is only one Tom. So... 'him' is the object pronoun for Tom.
Let's do this in a different way. We're going to change roles.
Tom likes Maria. Let's change the nouns for pronouns.
He likes her. How did we do this?
Tom is the subject of the sentence. Tom is a man and there is only one Tom. So... The subject pronoun for Tom is 'He'.
Maria is NOT the subject of the sentence. Maria comes after the verb.
Maria is a woman and there is only one Maria here. So... We need an object pronoun for Maria. The object pronoun is 'her'.
How about a little practice? Let's change the subject pronouns to object pronouns.
