What is a peptic ulcer? A peptic ulcer consists of a deep excavation of any part of the gastrointestinal tract mucosa, in the stomach or the duodenum. It is caused by contact with acid and pepsin.
What causes peptic ulcers? They can be caused by an imbalance of acid and pepsin as well as a break down of the protective barriers of the mucosa.
Where are peptic ulcers commonly found? They are commonly found in the antrum of the stomach or the first part of the duodenum
What are the contributing factors to the cause of peptic ulcers Stress -short term stress increases gastric secretions, decreases mucosal blood flow and decreases production of the protective mucin
What are other factors which can cause peptic ulcers? Coffee, tea, alcohol Low HCI Reduced immunity Genetic H.pylor infections NSAID's and aspririn Alcohol
