who is Antonie van Leeuwenhoek? Antonie van Leeuwenhoek is the somewhat improbable father of microbiology. A moderately educated owner of a textile business, he learned how to make his own unique microscopes which offered unparalleled magnification. Using these microscopes he made a number of crucially important scientific discoveries, including single-celled animals and plants, bacteria, and spermatozoa.
what is the difference between animal cell and plant cell? animal cells do not have a cell wall or chloroplasts but plant cells do. Animal cells are mostly round and irregular in shape while plant cells have fixed, rectangular shapes.
what is an cell theory? cell theory is the historic scientific theory, now universally accepted, that living organisms are made up of cells, that they are the basic structural/organizational unit of all organisms, and that all cells come from pre-existing cells. Cells are the basic unit of structure in all organisms and also the basic unit of reproduction.
who invented the first microscope? Zacharias Janssen is the Dutch spectacle maker who is widely credited as the inventor of the first compound microscope. Although many of the archives surrounding Janssen's invention have been lost, historians believe that Zacharias and his father Hans invented the first microscope at some point in the 1590s.
what are fungal cells? fungal cells are organisms that can be made of just a single cell or many cells.
what is an animal cell? Animal cells are eukaryotic cells or cells with a membrane-bound nucleus. Unlike prokaryotic cells, DNA in animal cells is housed within the nucleus. Animal cells and plant cells are similar in that they are both eukaryotic cells and have similar organelles.
what is an plant cell? Plant cells are the basic unit of life in organisms of the kingdom Plantae. They are eukaryotic cells, which have a true nucleus along with specialized structures called organelles that carry out different functions. Animals, fungi, and protists also have eukaryotic cells, while bacteria and archaea have simpler prokaryotic cells.
what are unicellular organisms? A unicellular organism is any life form that is composed of a single cell; they live and carry out all life processes as a single cell. Based on their complexity, unicellular organisms can be placed in one of two categories: eukaryote and prokaryote. Most unicellular organisms are microscopic, but some are visible to the naked eye.
