Data Exchange - VOIP VOIP works by having a "codec" to digitise analogue voice signals, compress it, break it into data packets and then send it. The revers is performed at the other end.

Data Exchange - Simplex Transmission Simplex transmission: sends data in one direction only. A radio broadcast is a good example of simplex transmission.
Data Exchange - Half Duplex Transmission Half-Duplex Transmission allows you to transmit data two ways but not at the same time. e.g. walkie talkies
Data Exchange - Full Duplex Transmission Full duplex transmission allows you to transmit data two ways at the same time. e.g. mobile phones
Data Exchange - Parallel Transmission Bits that make up a whole byte can be sent at one time over a of maximum 5 meters. e.g. printers
Data Exchange - Serial Transmission Bits are transmitted one at a time over a single wire. This takes longer than parallel transmission but can be pefrormed over long distances. e.g. USB
Data Exchange - Universal Serial Bus Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a serial transmission method which was designed to make all connections look the same.
Data Exchange - Bi-directional Transmission Bi-directional transmission means transmitting data in two directions at the same time. e.g. fibre wire
Data Exchange - Client Side Processing Client Side Processing is the use of code to provide interactivity on web pages without having to contact the server as it is built into the webpage.. This is faster than server side processing and is more secure as the code comes from the web page and not the browser. However some code only works on some browsrs and if you have a bad computer it can run slowly.
Data Exchange - Server Side Processing Server side processing involves the use of scripts which reside and are run on a web server. This means that it works on all browsers, is more efficient as the code doesn't have to be downloaded, it could be faster as all the work is doen by the server which tend to be very powerful. However servers can sometimes be overloaded making them slow and hacked causing viruses to be sent to every computer that uses it.
