What is Optical Mark Recognition? Shaded boxes are used to provide information. The position of the shading is what’s important – think of a National Lottery ticket
What is Optical Character Reading? Shapes of individual text characters are read and compared to standard shapes from the computer’s memory.
What is Magnetic Ink Character Recognition ? Characters are printed in magnetic ink to allow them to be read by computers at a later date. Magnetic ink helps improve accuracy of reading – MICR can be found in passports.
What is Verification? Verification means checking the input data with the original data to make sure that there have been no transcription errors.
What is Validation? Validation is a check on DATA INPUT to the system by comparing the data input with a set of rules that the computer has been told the data must follow. Validation is carried out by the computer system itself, using rules about what type of data to expect.
