What is Long reach demoltion? Use of machinery at ground level to reach up and strip buildings. Usually for 2-3 storeys max. Reduces needs for working at height and dangers of stripping the building from inside. Longest reaches of up to 43 metres, carrying weight of 3-4 tonnes Quicker than floor by floor, cheaper
What is floor by floor demolition? Used on high rises where long reach is not suitable. Scaffolding and fall nets are erected, soft strip carried out (doors, windows, services. Asbestos removed if present. Tower crane often erected to lift machinery to working levels and lift heavy elements down. challenging and Requires lots of planning by engineers
What is explosive demoltion? Use of controlled explosives on structural elememts, causes building to fall inwards, rubble is then removed. Takes many weeks to plan, requires exclusion zone, high security, quick once plans are agreed.
