Data | Data is a set of raw facts or figures . |
Information | Information is data that has been processed into a useful form. |
Knowledge | Knowledge is derived from information by applying rules to it. |
Encoding Data | Data that is coded during collection or when put into an ICT system. E.g. S = Small, M = Medium, L = Large. |
Coarsens Precision | The encoded data is less accurate than the data from which it came from. For example - someone describes their eye colour as blue/green but a database will only allow you to enter blue, green or brown. So which one do we choose? |
Value Judgement | Value judgement can be different for different people and can lead to inconsistency. For example – if asked “Was the meal ‘excellent’, ‘very good’, ‘good’, or ‘poor’?” One persons excellent meal is only good for another. |
