Pregunta Respuesta
What is the law of conservation of momentum? The law of conservation of momentum states, if there is no net torque on an object, momentum will remain constant. L=Iω
What is Angular momentum? Angular momentum is the product of an objects moment of inertia (I) and the angular velocity(ω), giving you L (momentum)
What is Linear Momentum? Linear momentum is simpler, It is just the mass of and object, multiplied by its velocity. p=mv, p = momentum
Why can changing an objects moment of inertia change its angular momentum? Changing an objects I (moment of Inertia) can change an objects angular velocity due to the relationship of the variables in the momentum equation. if momentum were to remain constant, and the "I" were to get smaller, the angular velocity would have to get bigger so that momentum would remain constant, and vice versa.
An ice skater is spinning at an angular velocity of ω, with a moment of inertia of I the skater then pulls her arms in and her new moment of inertia is now I/2, what must happen to her angular velocity? Her angular velocity will go up.(2x)
Rule of the law of conservation of momentum if there is no force on a SYSTEM of objects, (i.e. two blocks sliding toward each other with constant momentum) and they collide, the momentum of the system before the collision will equal the momentum of the system after the collision.
Momentum is a vector, pointing in the direction of the velocity. A net force produces a change in momentum that is equal to the force multiplied by the time interval during which the force was applied. for example, 10N of force for 5 seconds, the change in momentum would be 50, (positive or negative)
