Hypoventilation shallow, ineffective respirations "the patient had morphine, and is now hypoventilating, let's assess her more closely"
Orthostatic hypotension Postural hypotension Clinically significant decrease in blood pressure (>20 mm Hg) related to position changes i.e. lying to standing, sitting to standing. Usually associated with symptoms i.e. light-headedness
Tachypnoeic Fast respirations, greater than 20 rpm "the patient has become slightly tachypnoeic, let's assess him to find a cause for this change"
Tachycardia Elevated HR, equal or greater than 100 bpm "the patient is tachycardic and hypotensive, let's get him to bed and assess him"
Normotensive Blood pressure within a 'normal' range
Hypoxic Cells, tissues, organs... are deprived have abnormally low levels of oxygen
Hypoxaemic Abnormally low levels of oxygen in the blood
Agonal breathing Irregular, ineffective, sporadic breathing, with periods of apnoea throughout. Typically seen in the dying patient.
Asystole Absence of heart beat/pulse
