What is an effortful swallow? Why is it important?	a hard swallow. You get a better squeeze in the pharynx.
What is an interdental swallow? Why important?	tongue between teeth and swallow. Base of tongue retraction is being increased. (base of tongue and pharynx).
What is the Mendelssohn maneuver? why important?	take a breath, hold, swallow, release breathe. not sure...
what is the shakir exercise? who can't do it?	lay on back, do a partial sit up of the head and swallow. critically fragile people.
What does xerostomia do?:	creates a lack of saliva - ie: dry mouth.
Which outcome has a better recovery: pharyngeal or oral tumor surgery?	oral
Why is oral tumor surgery better?	floor and back of the mouth is better than the top to recover from.
What is a hemilaryngectomy?	removal of 1/2 the larynx.
which is worse: supraglottic laryngectomy or hemilaryngectomy?	supra. it's taking out the top of bottom half.
Where does an Chloropec tube run?	nose to the throat.
