When does combustion happen? | Happens when anything burns or explodes. |
When does corrosion happen? | Happens when a metal such as copper or an alloy e.g steel changes into something else. |
What happens in a chemical reaction? | New substances form and old ones leave/disappear. |
What are reactants? | Old substances you started with before the chemical reaction. |
What are products? | The new substances formed by the chemical reaction. |
What does a chemical equation do? | Way of showing what happens to different substances in a chemical reaction. |
How is a chemical reaction written? | Always written in this form; reactants -> products. |

A simple description of what is happening in a reaction. |
An example of a word equation. | Nitrogen gas + Hydrogen gas ->ammonia |
What is a balanced equation? | More detailed way of showing whats happening in a reaction. |
An example of a balanced equation. | N2 + 3H2 -> 2NH3 |
What are coefficients? | Big numbers in fronton chemicals within a balanced equation. |
What is endothermic reaction? | A reaction thats absorbs heat, takes it from its surroundings and making them feel colder. |
What happens in an endothermic reaction? | Products have more energy than the reactants. |
Example of an endothermic. | Ice pack on an injury |
What is an exothermic reaction? | Reaction thats releases energy. |
What happens in an exothermic reaction? | The reactants have more energy than the products |
What happens during an exothermic reaction? | Energy gets released into the surroundings, usually as heat and/or light. |
What is combustion? | Rapid reaction with oxygen that releases energy. |
