Recruitment Involves finding and attracting people to apply for a job vacancy Internal = business decides to appoint someone already within the business External = applicants from outside the business are appointed to fill the new position job analysis = study of each employees duties, tasks and work environment
Training Training = teaching staff to perform their job more efficiently by boosting their knowledge & skills. Development =preparing employees to take on more responsibilities by acquiring better knowledge and skills and gaining more experience in a particular area.
Training Off-the-job training — when employees have trained away from the workplace. It usually involves sending individuals or groups of employees to a particular specialised training institution. On-the-job training — this occurs when employees need to learn a specific set of skills to perform particular tasks in the workplace. Usually occurs within the working environment Competency-based training: identities skill strengths and areas where further training is required
Employment contracts Under common law, both employers and employees have basic rights and obligations in any employment relationship. National Employment Standards set of employment conditions that apply to all workers
Employment contracts Award = legally binding agreement that sets out the minimum wages and conditions for employees Enterprise agreement = are collective agreements made at a workplace level between an employer and a union, acting on behalf of its employees,
Separation = ending of the employment relationship
Voluntary = employee chooses to leave the business of their own free will *retirement * resignation or quitting
Involuntary = an employee is asked to leave the business against their will *retrenchment - due to lack of work *dismissal - behaviour is unacceptable
