What are the Main Factors of good quality Information? (6 in total) 1.) Accuracy 2.) Correctly targeted 3.) Understandable (Presentation) 4.) Complete 5.) Relevance 6.) Up to date
Why is it important to have Good Accurate Information? 1.) If the data it is not accurate you cannot rely on the information it provides. Making it useless
Give an example of Good Accurate Information: 1.) If you ask for the price of a house and you are given an incorrect figure, the user will lose confidence. 2.) If you are given the correct price then the user will have more confidence.
Why is it important to have Good Correctly Targeted Information? 1.) You can be given too much or too little information. 2.) The volume of data determines whether you have enough to make a decision or too much. 3.) If you have too much it can be difficult to find what you require
Give an example of Good Correctly Targeted Information: 1.) If you are buying a house, having every minor alteration and samples of different color schemes used in the house is too much information. 2.) Just having the color of the house and just one alteration is too little information 3.) That's why we need to find a happy medium
Why is it important to have Good Understandable Information? (Presentation of Information) 1.) If the information is not presented in such a way that you can understand or find what you want it loses value.
How can Understandable Information be improved? Or How can the Presentation of Information be improved? 1.) The presentation might be improved by sorting or using a different method of representation. 2.) A picture or graph instead of text.
Give an example of Good Understandable / Presented Information: 1.) Pictures of a property make house brochures easier to digest. 2.) House brochures are presented in an organised way (as if you were walking through the house). 3.) Consistent presentation makes it easier to compare properties. The user will then have confidence using it.
Why is it important to have Good Complete Information? (Completeness) 1.) If you only have part of the information then it is worthless.
What is the formula for having Good Complete Information? 1.) Data requires a context, structure, and meaning for it to have value and be useful.
Give an example of Good Complete Information: 1.) If you want to view a house and you are: only given the house number but no road name 2.) The date of the viewing but not the time, then the information is not worth anything.
Why is it important to have Good Relevant Information? (Relevance) 1.) Information must be relevant. If you have some information but it does not relate to the topic it is worthless.
Why is it a Disadvantage to have Un-Relevant Information? 1.) Having information that is not relevant can be a disadvantage. 2.) It increases the volume of data and this could mean a longer time is required to look at it.
Give an example of Good Relevant Information: 1.) If you ask for the distance of a property from different places within town 2.) Then to be told how far it is from a bus stop on the other side of town or how far it is to the mayors' house is irrelevant.
Why is it important to have Good Up-to Date Information? 1.) Information can change over time. 2.) If you know the information is from the past it may not be relevant now.
Why is it important to keep Up-to Date Information? 1.) Up-to date and relevant information does go hand in hand 2.) Some people might want the most up to date information and others might want past records and this is all depends on the relevance to the person. 3.) Information itself should be kept up to date to keep its quality
Give an example of Good Up-to Date Information: 1.) If you ask for the price of a house, to be given a figure that is five years old the user will not have confidence using it. 2.) If you get the price from a month ago then it is more relevant to the user and they will have more confidence using it.
How do you Keep Information Up-to Date? Or What steps do a company have to make to keep their Information Up-to Date? 1.) Collect up-to-date data 2.) Enter the data onto the system 3.) Delete out-of-date data But dependent on the relevance of the Information the Out-Of-Date data shouldn't be deleted
