Props | What props we used and why |
Fake Blood | We decided to use fake blood in a certain scene in the opening of our thriller because we wanted to make the scene more realistic. People often expect things such as,blood and violence to be involved in a thriller film so using the fake blood would indicate to the audience that something bad has or will happen. The fake blood fits the codes and conventions of a thriller because red is typically a colour of danger and warning which is what we wanted to portray within the scene. The fake blood also fits with the genre of our thriller as it is a mystery thriller. The prop catches peoples attentions and has the audience questioning what has happened and who is hurt. |
Computer | Another prop we used was a computer. We wanted to make sure that it was clear that the main character was a schoolgirl so we had a scene where she went into a classroom to do homework after school and was using a computer to do so. By seeing her sitting at a computer doing her homework it highlights that she is an innocent character who is going about day to day life doing things that aren't out of the ordinary which has the audience questioning why she is being watched by somebody |
String/Wire | We also planned to film a part within the classroom scene where a door slammed shut behind the girl whilst she was on the computer causing her to be startled. We needed to use wire to do this by tying it to the door handle so that nobody would be seen in the frame and it would appear as if the door had shut closed by itself. We wanted to include this part because it created mystery and fit the codes and conventions of a thriller because it also created suspense and tension. Also things like this aren't usually expected as it is impossible for a door to slam on it's own without somebody doing it. This also adds to the influence from paranormal activity that we got ideas from. |
