Why do scientists not classify viruses in any of the five kingdoms Viruses are not alive, they need a host cell. They do not show all the life process eg growth or feeding
Name the five different vertebrates group and tell me what a vertebrate is Vertebrate is an animal with a back bone. They are split into mammals, reptiles, fish, amphibians, birds
Where are genes located? They are in chromosomes, which are made of DNA and the chromosomes are in the nucleus of the cell.
What is an allele An allele is an alternative form of a gene, which causes differences in inherited characteristics.
What are dominant and recessive alleles? dominant=an allele that is always seen recessive= an allele only seen when there are 2 copies
homozygous and heterozygus alleles? homozygous= two alleles the same heterozygus= is two different alleles
phenotype and genotype alleles? phenotype= how the characteristics actually look eg blue eyes. genotype= the alleles for a characteristics eg Rr
Whats sickle cell disease? sickle shaped red blood cells, this means less oxygen can be carried.
Effects of sickle cell disease tired, short of breath, joints can be painful as the sickle blood cells get stuck in blood vessels
Whats cystic fibrosis? causes the body to produce thick mucus that particulary effect the lungs and digestive tract.
Symptoms of cystic fibrosis? troublesome cough, repeated chest infections, poor weight gain.
