Pregunta Respuesta
What are the differences between p waves and s waves? P waves are longitudinal because they push and pull. S waves are transverse because they move side to side. P waves can travel through solids and liquids. S waves can travel through solids only!
What are the densities of the crust, mantle, outer core and inner core? The crust is thin and rocky. The mantle is solid but can flow slowly. The outer core is liquid nickel and iron. The inner core is solid nickel and iron.
What causes convection currents in the mantle? Radioactive material decays and releases heat which causes the mantle to flow in convection currents.
What is the difference between an AC and a DC? An AC current changes direction so it is alternating. A direct current only goes in one direction.
What is electromagnetic induction? This is when a electric current is produced when a magnet moves around a coil, or if a coil moves around a magnetic field. The electric current has been induced.
What does it mean when the reading of the magnet shows a) 0 b) positive c) negative? a) The magnet or coil have stopped moving relative to eachother. b) a current and voltage has been induced in the magnet c) The direction of the current has been reversed likewise an a.c
How is electricity generated from fossil fuels? The heat is released from burning fossil fuels. steam turns the turbine the turbine turns the generator (a.c) and electricity is produced. it goes to the transformers to produce the correct voltage
How does a dynamo on bikes turn the light? The wheel turns the magnet inside a coil. As the magnet changes rotates the direction changes- it induces a current/voltage. the wire is a closed circuit and it flows to the bulb to convert it into light. the greater the current the more brighter.
How to increase the current? move the magnet faster use a stronger magnet increase the number of turns on the coil increase the area of the coil
