Resumen del Recurso

Pregunta Respuesta
How is sound produced? Through the displacement of an elastic medium e.g. water or air
When does compression and rarefaction occur? Compression occurs when molecules collide increasing the pressure within a particular area in an elastic medium. Rarefaction occurs when there is a decrease in pressure at a particular point within an elastic medium.
How is the sound transmitted across the elastic medium (to the ear)? The pattern of compression and rarefaction is propagated along a wave of mechanical pressure and is funneled into the ear by the pinnae
When can the process of sound transmission occur? When there is an elastic medium present, NOT in space (or a vaccum) as there are no molecules
