What is homeostasis?	Homeostasis is the ability of an organism to maintain a constant internal environment.
Give a role for the skin in homeostasis	Maintains body temperature of 37 degrees
What do the kidneys control in homeostasis?	- The kidneys control the blood and tissue fluid pH.
What controls the concentration of oxygen in the body?	The breathing system
What maintains the correct glucose concentration in the blood?	The endocrine system
What happens to body temperature at night?	It falls by about 1 degree
What happens to body temperature when we get an infection?	Body temperature rises when we get an infection
What is the role of the liver in homeostasis?	The liver prevents a build up of toxic materials in the body
What does the brain do in homeostasis?	The brain co-ordinates the activities of the organs in homeostasis.
How is urea formed?	1) Proteins are digested. 2) These proteins are broken down into amino acids. 3) There may be a surplus of amino acids in the body. This can be toxic for the body. (4) The amino acids are taken to the liver where they are broken down. (deamination). (5) This forms urea.
What is active transport?	The movement of molecules using energy AGAINST a concentration gradient
What does the anti-diuretic hormone do?	it controls the amount of water in the blood/ reabsorbed in the collecting ducts
When may the water level in the blood plasma become to low?	When we don't consume enough water when we eat salty foods.
