1. Conciliation Mediation between two parts or more in a legal case. Bringing two opposing sides together to reach a compromise in an attempt to avoid taking a case to trial.
2. Custody The parent who had chief rights over the children.
3. Maintenance Regular payments by one party of a marriage to another. The payments can be by a judge order or by agreement between the parties.
4. Necessities / legal obligation Those things that parents have to provide to their children and that one spouse has the responsibility to provide to the other. These usually include food, clothing, housing, and medical care.
5. Fatherhood. The father’s responsibility to guide their children, teach them fundamental things to be good persons: values, respect, the golden rules, empathy, work, among others.
6. Paternity suit A lawsuit brought by a woman against a man she claims is the father of her child. If paternity is proven, the man is legally responsible for the contributing to the support of the child.
7. Alimony A court or judge orders a husband or wife (or an ex-husband/ex-wife) pays to his or her spouse after a legal separation, after a divorce, or while the case is being decided.
8. Joint custody A custody agreement in which divorced or separated parents have equal rights in making important decisions concerning their children.
9. Child support A court/judge-determined payment that the parent not living with the child must pay to help provide for the child's needs.
10. Guardian A person appointed to take care of a child or children, or property of another.
11. Non-custodial parent The parent who does not live with or have custody of a child but does have a responsibility for financial support of that child.
