Wilhelm II - Wilhelm II became Emperor (Kaiser) of Germany in 1888. He led the 2nd Reich of Germany. The Abdicated on the 9th November 1918, 2 days after Germany surrenders in WW2, 30 Years after his crowning | World War 1 - World War I was the 5th Bloodiest war in history, having up to 20 million casualties in the space of 4 years. It was fought by 11 powers, including Germany, US, Ottoman Empire (Modern Day Turkey), etc. |
Treaty of Versailles - The Treaty of Versailles was one of 5 treaties signed after World War I, but was regarding the German Empire and its Subjects, for example, Poland was given independence where it had been established as a German Puppet State in 1916, and it would be given Large amounts of Prussian Territory | The Uprisings - There were a total of 3 uprisings, The 1919 Spartacist Uprising, the 1921 Kapp Putsch, and the 1932 Munich Putsch. Spartacist Uprising - The Spartacist Uprising waas caused when the German President, Fredrick Ebert fired the Police Chief in Berlin, causing riots, and taking the cities communications. The German Government, in order to combat this, recalled Veterans from WW1 to rejoin the army. This 200,000 strong unit of the Reichswehr was called the Freikorps. Kapp Putsch - The Kapp Putsch was an uprising began by the Freikorps in 1921, when Fredrick Ebert ordered the demobilisation of the Freikorps. When the Reichswehr refused to fight against the Uprising, Ebert convinced the people to go on strike Munich Putsch - The Munich Putsch was the last, and least successful of the uprisings in the short run, but in the long run was very successful. This putsch, led by Adolf Hitler (I wonder who that is) lasted for a couple days, only ending after a short gunfight int the street, ending in 3 Police Officers, and 16 Nazis dead. |
The Ruhr, and Hyperinflation. In 1923 the Wiemar Republic (Germany) stopped paying War Reperations, due to economic strains on Germany. In response to this, about 10,000 French and Belgian troops entered Germany, and occupied the Ruhr. President Ebert then promised to pay the German Workers to go on strike. The Occupation took up to 2 years to get rid of the occupation, by then the German Government had printed so much money it had become worthless | Golden Years - In 1924, stresseman became Chancellor of the Wiemar Republic, and would reform its economy completely. He introduced the "Rentonmark", a currency intended to replace the previous Marks the Germans had been using since 1914. He'd replace every persons money with said mark, though, personal savings were not replaced. He'd also take loans from the United States, and agree to begin the reparations again, but would lengthen it up to around 50 years |
