The 'Consumer Guarantees Act 1993' covers: - Goods of a type that people ordinarily buy for personal or household use, such a s clothes, washing machines and cars. - Services of a type that people ordinarily have carried out for a personal or household purpose. - New and used goods.
Repair, replace or refund - If the failure can be repaired, the supplier can repair the goods or replace the goods or refund money to the consumer. - If the failure cannot be repaired or is major, the consumer can reject the goods and the supplier must replace the goods with an identical or superior type or refund the purchase price. - The consumer may also keep the goods and claim compensation.
Unfair trade practices: - Bait advertising - Offering of gifts and prizes with no intention to provide.
According to 'The Health and Safety Employment Act 1992' the business must - Carry out risk assessments to identify possible dangers. - First aiders trained and accident books kept. - Train staff in health and safety.
'The Privacy Act 1993' - The privacy act controls how "Agencies" collect, use, disclose, store and give access to 'personal information' - The privacy act applies to 'personal information' which is any info about an identifiable individual, whether automatic or manually processed. - The aim is to ensure that data collected by one agency is not passed on to another without the permission of the individual involved.
