Characterisation	Technique used by the writer to create a character
Dumb show	Part of a play performed without words, in pantomine
Couplet	A pair of rhymed lines
Denouement	Final resolution of a play, novel or other narrative
Dramatic irony	When the audience or reader is in possession of knowledge of which the character is ignorant
Exposition	The opening section of a play. Characters introduced and essential information is given to the audience.
Figurative language	Metaphor simile
Iambic pentameter	Ten syllable line, five stressed five unstressed. Unstressed followed by stressed
Idiom	A manner of expression, peculiar to a person or language
Proleptic irony	Foreshadowing of an event that will take place later in a play or literary text
