What is respiration? | Respiration is a process that happens inside mitochondria. It provides energy in the form of ATP(energy) |
Equation for aerobic respiration(with oxygen) | Glucose+oxygen=carbon dioxide+water+energy(ATP) C6H12O6+O2=CO2+H2O |
Equation for anaerobic respiration(without oxygen) | glucose=lactic acid+energy ⬇️ what you feel after fitness |
What do we use respiration for? | -Muscle contraction/movements -Growth/cell division -Repair of cells -Body processes |
Difference between aerobic and anaerobic | -Lactic acid produced in anae. -No oxygen in anae -Less energy is released in anae. |
What is oxygen debt? | Oxygen debt is the volume of oxygen needed for muscles to recover and remove lactic acid. |
Why do we need so much oxygen? | -We have a large volume of living cells. -We maintain a high core body temperature and therefore have high metabolic and respiration rates. |
The human gas exchange system | |
Trachea | |
Pleural membranes P | -They make up a continuous envelope around the lungs, forming an airtight seal. -Between the two membranes is a space called the pleural cavity. -Filled with a thin layer of liquid called pleural fluid. |
