Cuprammonium Rayon (Bemberg) Made from cotton liners, fine, silky, weak when wet.
Triacetate Made from cotton liters, resilient, can be perm pressed, blends.
Viscose Rayon From wood pulp, versatile, absorbent, weak when wet.
Polyamide (nylon) From coal, oxygen, hydrogen, and nitrogen. filament is stretched and spun into a yarn. Strong, elastic, can be perm pressed, non absorbent so good for rain and bad for sweat.
Polyester From petroleum, doesn't crease, non absorbing, static, strong, blends.
Polyurethrane from petri-chemical industry, replacing rubberized elastics, finer than rubber, made into foam for backing, stretches.
protein From Casein (milk proteins) weak, soft, absorbent, blends with cotton, rayon, wool.
Metal Threads 2 types to make metallic head or strip: Tinsel: core of copper, metal, or cotton wound in gold or silver thread. Plastic Covered Metal (Lurex): aluminum coated in colored adheisive and polyester for trimmings, embroidery and hand sewing.
