Pregunta Respuesta
Thermoregulation The body's core temperature is monitored by receptors in the hypothalamus
Endotherms Animals that maintain a constant, warm body temperature e.g. mammals, birds
Ectotherms 'Cold-blooded' organisms, heat comes from their surroundings
When the temperature drops... - less sweat; less evaporation of water; less loss of latent heat - hairs raised to trap a layer of air (insulates) - vasoconstriction
When the temperature rises... - sweating; water evaporates; latent heat of vaporisation - hairs lie flat, providing little insulation; more heat lost through convection/radiation - vasodilation
