Popular Sovereignty The people's rule in a state or government.
Naturalization Where a non-citizen in a country may acquire citizenship or nationality of that country.
Dual Citizenship Where a person is regarded as a citizen of more than one state.
Immigrants Where people move into another country that they are not native or do not possess its citizenship in.
Refugee Where a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.
"Melting Pot" Theory It is the coming together of immigrants to the United States.
"Salad Bowl" Theory Where newly arrived immigrants do not lose the unique aspects of their cultures.
14th Amendment Where citizenship was granted to all persons born or naturalized in the United States.
Government It is the system of people, laws, and officials that define and control the country that you live in.
Autocracy Ruled by self or one.
Oligarchy Ruled by a few people.
Democracy Rule by people.
Direct Democracy Where the people decide on the laws and rules.
Representative Democracy (Indirect Democracy) Where a group of elected officials represent a group of people.
