Pregunta Respuesta
What does it mean if an atom is more electro negative than another. It means it is better at attracting electrons.
The definition of electro negativity. Electronegativity is the power of an atom to attract the electron density in a covalent bond towards itself.
What is electron density? It's the term used to describe the way the negative charge is distributed in a molecule.
What is the Pauling scale. Is the scale used as a measure of electronegativity.
What does electronegativity depend on? Nuclear charge, the distance between the nucleus and the outer shell electrons, the shielding of the nuclear charge by electrons in inner shells.
As we go up a group in the periodic table, what happens to electro negativity. It increases. The atoms get smaller. There is less shielding by electrons in inner shells.
As we go across a period what happens to the electro negativity? It increases.
What is the polarity of covalent. Polarity is about the unequal sharing of the electrons between atoms that are bonded together covalently.
