What is your circulatory system made up of? Heart, blood vessels and blood.
What does the circulatory system do? It continuously pumps blood around the body.
How many blood vessels do we have in our body? 3.
Name them. Arterie, vines and capillaries.
What do arteries do? Carry blood away from the heart.
How thick are capillary walls? One cell thick.
Why are they one cell thick? To allow dissolved materials to move through them.
What do veins do? They carry blood back to the heart.
What happens if you bump yourself hard? Some of the capillaries burst, leaking onto the tissue making the area look red.
How big is the heart? As out the size of a fist.
Where is it found? Middle of the chest behind the breastbone.
What muscle is the heart made up of? Cardiac muscle.
How many circuits can be found in the heart? Two.
What does each one do? - the first one carries nutrients and oxygen to the cells of the body. - the second circuit carries wastes and carbon dioxide from the cells back to the heart so it can be taken out of the body.
What is oxygenated blood Blood high in oxygen.
What is deoxygenated blood? Blood containing carbon dioxide.
What is cholesterol? A type of fat produced by animal cells.
What happens if you have too much cholesterol in your body? It starts to build up and eventually blocks your arteries.
What are four things found in blood? Red blood cells, white blood cells, platets and plasma.
What is Haemoglobin Part of a red blood cell that holds the oxygen in the cell.
