What is the repetition of 'I love thee...' called? Anaphora
What is the main message after the 1st line of Sonnet 43? It is an attempt to show how much this person loves the person they are talking to.
What does the use of caesura create in Sonnet 43? Shows that the writer has so many ideas and reasons why they love that person. It also creates a dramatic effect.
What can we say about the line, 'How do I love thee? Let me count the ways! - ' ? Rhetorical question creates a sense of reflection and that it is an impossible question to answer. 'Let me' suggests an indulgence to answer. '!' shows excitement and exaggerates the line.
What does the use of polysyndeton in line 2 suggest? The person could continue listing the ways, and shows the exaggeration of the writers feelings.
