What is a balanced diet? A balanced diet contains the correct amount of each food group from the eat-well plate and provides you with everything you need to survive e.g energy
What is a metabolic rate? A metabolic rate is a chemical reaction which take place in cells.
Why do we need energy? we need energy to fuel the chemical reactions in the body that keep you alive this is called metabolism
what is the name for someone who diet is badly out of balance? they are said to be malnourished
what can lead to obesity? hormonal problems, bad diet, overeating and lack of exercise
What can happen as a result of obesity? health problems such as: - arthritis - type 2 diabetes - high blood pressure - heart disease - cancer
what can happen as a result of eating to much fat and sugar? too much saturated fat can increase your blood cholesterol level too much salt can cause high blood pressure and heart problems
what can malnutrition lead to? Malnutrition can lead to: - slow growth - fatigue - poor resistance to infection - irregular periods in women
what are deficiency disease caused by and what problems do they cause? Deficiency diseases are caused by a lack of vitamins or minerals. A lack of vitamin C can cause scurvy which causes problems with skin, joints and gums
Factors affecting Health those who exercise regularly and usually healthier than those who dont
what does exercise do? exercise: - increases the amount of energy used by the body - decreases the amount of stored fat - builds muscle - helps boost metabolic rate
What inherited factors affect health? inherited factors can affect: - metabolic rate - under-active thyroid gland - blood cholestoral levels - heart disease
how does you lifestyle affect your health? - your lifestyle includes what you eat and what you do - someone who eats to much fat or carbohydrates and doesn't do much exercise will increase their risk of obesity
