Pregunta Respuesta
What is convection? Convection only happens in LIQUIDS and GASSES. Convection happens when particles move from hotter to colder regions and carry the heat with them.
Why can't convection happen happen in solids? Convection can't happen in solids because the particles can't move, only vibrate.
What happens when a liquid or gas is heated up? When a liquid or gas is heated up, the particles move faster and becomes less dense.
What is conduction? Conduction only happens in SOLIDS. It is the process where vibrating particles pass on kinetic energy to neighbouring particles (this causes the rise in temperature).
Why are metals good conductors? Metals are good conductors as some of their electrons are free to move. Heat will make the electrons move faster and collide more frequently.
What is radiation? Heat is radiated as infrared radiation and can only occur in transparent objects like air and water. All objects emit and absorb radiation constantly.
What are the best absorbers and emitters? Dark colours
What are the worst absorbers and emitters? Smooth, shiny and light colours (because they reflect)
