Pregunta Respuesta
What are the basic tenets of the cell theory? 1. Cells, and the products of cells, are the basic unit of structure and function in organisms. 2. All cells come from preexisting cells.
Describe the similarities and differences of prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Prokaryotes are simple, containing one continuous strand of DNA attached to the membrane in an area called the nuclei. They have a rigid cell wall composed of lipids, proteins and carbs, and a cell membrane as well. They also have cytoplasm and plasmids, rings of genes that contain genes that may aid survival. Some have flagella, long whip-like structures (simple) that rotate to move the cell. Prokaryotes are unicellular. Eukaryotes are single or multicellular. Some have cell walls, and all have cell membranes. The big difference between prokaryotes and eukaryotes is that eukaryotes have a nucleus that holds multiple chromosomes, and has membrane-bound organelles to carry out specific functions. Eukaryotes divide by mitosis, while prokaryotes don't. Also, eukaryotes have a cytoskeleton while prokaryotes don't have a known one.
Describe the many structures of a eukaryotic cell. See Ch. 6 Flashcards
What are the levels of organization of an organism? Cells ---> Tissue ---> Organs ---> Organ System ---> Organism
