| how did the Germans respond to this? | - the Germans responded with passive resistance [all the workers went on strike] - there was no industrial production, therefore nothing for the French to take - the French responded by arresting anyone on strike and bought in their own workers |
| what was the aftermath of this? | - over 140 Germans were killed, bringing back old hatred - many Germans (particularly, the right wing) blamed the WR for not stopping them - the economy was also further disrupted: • the government had to pay the strikers • there was no production or exporting → no income |
